2006 MadFish Chardonnay Reviews

Lovely chardonnay. Richness and length, interest and reliability, this will keep everyone happy. Indeed this wine could easily be considered a benchmark for the way affordable, widely available chardonnay should taste. Matchsticks, pears, grapefruit, apples, smoky barrels, its all there, and its all good.Drink 2008 to 2010.

This is quite a sophisticated wine with a little barrel fermentation and lees stirring used to add texture and complexity. Opens with a distinctive, toasty, lemon aroma with some lifted stone fruit nuances. The crunchy, deep and complex palate has nice texture and persistence. A current drinking wine.

This is a blend of 71% Margaret River and 29% Great Southern and as with most things MadFish it delivers quality in abundant quantity. Melon or dried pear, certainly some citrus with a creamy nutty overtone and a bit of struck flint. Quite juicy and aromatic. Complex too. On the palate cool and fluid with a lovely even glossy texture and fine clean acidity. It has nutty savoury flavours combining with melon and citrus fruits and a little spicy oak. Finishes long and clean with a tangy grapefruit and spice aftertaste. I'm a fan.

The 2006 edition of this excellent West Australian chardonnay is about to replace the '05. Both are good buys. The '06 smells nicely complex with nutty, leesy touches to subtle stone fruit, mineral and fragrant citrus-like qualities. The palate is silky with good depth, and brisk acidity frames the very long, satisfying palate.Drink over two years.

A delicious multi-regional West Australian blend featuring rich, ripe flavour within a balanced structure. The texture is creamy yet still fresh, fine and infused with lively acidity.

Has a distinctive mineral and tart grapefruit character. Aromas show some nice citrus with a little delicate white peach. Focused and tightly packed palate with a creamy background. Zippy finish with acid to lift.
