2005 MadFish Premium Red Reviews

Bloody good gear, this wine. Definitely punching above its weight with a complexity and style you expect higher up the totem pole. A refined and balanced palate which is long and sustained.

This is amazing value. Bacony, smoked-meat aromas, some oak influences. A fleshy, deep, supple taste with good extract and fruit which is concentrated and fleshy. Excellent drinking now and for a decade-plus.

This is an excellent value red, full of ripe intensely flavoured fruit supported with firm tannins and a little cedary oak. Attractive savoury spice on the nose and palate.

MadFish Premium Red 2005 brings salvation to those who prefer the finesse and structure of cabernet sauvignon or, as in this case, a cabernet-based wine to the more upfront, generosity of shiraz. The cabernet sauvignon, merlot and cabernet franc in this mix came variously from Margaret River, Pemberton and across the Great Southern. The cabernet sauvignon provides length of flavour and structure, the merlot breadth and the cabernet franc lift. It is the sort of blend that made French claret world famous. Tony Davis takes advantage of the mix of regional characters, 'to produce a repeatable, dependable and stable style
